The Blavatnik School of Government seeks to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to contribute to the project Quality and Resilience in Inter-municipal Collaboration, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) via its Rebuilding Macroeconomics programme.
Led by Dr Thomas Elston (University of Oxford) and Professor Germà Bel (Universitat de Barcelona), the project will evaluate the effect of cross-jurisdictional collaboration between local authorities on the quality and resilience of local public services in England, focusing initially on tax and social security policies, and later on urban development.
Reporting to Dr Thomas Elston, the post holder will manage their own academic research and administrative activities, and adapt existing and develop new research methodologies and materials. They will prepare working theories and analyse qualitative and/or quantitative data, contribute ideas for new research projects, and collaborate in the preparation of research publications and book chapters. They will also act as a source of information and advice to other members of the group, represent the research group at external meetings/seminars, and present papers at conferences or public meetings.
The successful candidate must hold a relevant PhD/DPhil, together with relevant experience, and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline. They will have the ability to manage their own academic research and associated activities, and contribute ideas to new research projects and research income generation. Experience of contributing to publications/presentations, and excellent communication skills are also essential.
This post is fixed-term for 6 months, with possibility of extension subject to funding.
