About the role
The post will contribute to the development of methodologies to identify the parentage of hatchery-reared juvenile lobsters to assess the contribution of parent animals used as hatchery broodstock; additionally, the project aims to develop a genetic test of sufficient resolution to be able to confirm the authenticity of Cornish lobsters in the commercial shellfish supply chain against the broader mosaic of genetic variation in the species across Britain and Europe; the project will also develop a software pipeline to analyse the range of genetic data generated.
Experience inusing molecular genetic techniques to characterise populations of marine invertebrates and to carry out parentage analysis is essential, and a track record demonstrating specific experience of genotyping European lobsters is desirable. Experience of statistical software and marine aquaculture/hatchery processes is also highly desirable and will aid in identifying the best ways in which this research can deliver business impact within the regions agritech/aquaculture sector.
The project is based at the University of Exeter, Streatham Campus, but will require regional travel.
