The Centre for Marine Sustainability is inviting applications for a postdoctoral research fellowship to investigate the implications of novel maritime decarbonisation and autonomy technologies on the future education and training of seafarers. 

The Centre for Marine Sustainability is a leader in the creation of insight, knowledge and innovation for safe and sustainable seas. Based in the Warsash Maritime School, the Centre is a multidisciplinary group with expertise in maritime decarbonisation, hydrodynamics, safety, education, autonomy, and more. The Centre is inviting applications for a postdoctoral research fellowship to investigate the implications of novel maritime decarbonisation and autonomy technologies on the education and training of seafarers.

The role is funded by EPSRC as part of the UK Clean Maritime Research Hub, a consortium of 13 universities led by Durham and includes researchers from Aston, Birmingham, Brighton, City, Cranfield, Liverpool, Newcastle, Nottingham, Sheffield, Solent, St Andrews and Ulster universities. The Hub will carry out innovative research in sustainable marine fuels and their safe use, low-carbon power and propulsion systems for shipping, decarbonised port operations and infrastructure, improved maritime operations and vessel efficiency.

You should have (or be close to award) a PhD in Marine Engineering. Maritime Studies, Maritime Business, Sociology, Engineering, or a related discipline. Moreover, a strong knowledge and understanding of the Maritime sector is essential. Experience of research in the topics of training and education is desirable. You will be bale to demonstrate expertise conducive to conducting research and publishing innovative findings in esteemed international journals/conferences. Essential attributes for this role include a high level of initiative, the capacity to work both collaboratively and independently.

Strong teamwork skills and proficiency in English are prerequisites.

This post is initially offered on a fixed term for a period of two years.
