These advances will impact patient lives through improved prevention, diagnosis and treatments

The post

The College is seeking to appoint an exceptional Early Career researcher who will be awarded an independent four-year Fellowship within the MRC CMM at the University of Exeter. This Fellowship is aimed at newly qualified postdoctoral researchers with the aim of attracting exceptional individuals to develop an early independent research career in medical mycology. The Fellowship covers salary and comes with a generous consumable budget (up to £20k per annum).

This post will focus specifically on Bioinformatics, complementing that of Dr. Rhys Farrer’s team (http://biosciences.exeter.ac.uk/staff/profile/index.php?web_id=Rhys_Farrer ), and we are looking for an individual with an interest in exploiting ‘omics’  approaches to address the host or the host-pathogen interface.

The successful applicant will be expected to develop their own independent research programme in collaboration with our MRC CMM PIs (https://www.exeter.ac.uk/medicalmycology/team/ ); write up work for publication; identify sources of research funding; present their work at conferences; and contribute to the activities of the Centre (e.g. research, outreach and teaching). The primary role will be to execute their own project successfully and publish the resultant outputs, with the ultimate aim of applying for a subsequent personal independent fellowship.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.

Applicants must have recently completed their PhD (with a maximum of three years post-doctoral experience). They will have a proven ability to work independently on a cutting-edge, cross-disciplinary scientific research project, whilst collaborating effectively to help other members of a team, with sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline
