The Opportunity:

You will join an ERC selected, UKRI-funded research project, ‘Data and the Healthcare Revolution (DARE)’ exploring how data, care and learning relate to each other in healthcare in the big data era, focussing on the scales of home, hospital, nation state and policy. You will be responsible for leading work package 3, ‘Nation’, which investigates the changing data/care relations in data-enabled national public health programmes. 

This post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working. 

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • A PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant social science (e.g. Science & Technology Studies, Medical Sociology, Medical Anthropology), with training or skills relevant to the project (e.g. ethnographic methods).
  • Experience of conducting ethnographic research in scientific or medical settings.
  • Knowledge and experience of undertaking research into data and/or care practices in biomedicine. 
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, supported by good IT skills, and ability to adapt to digital research methods as required.
