We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Pharmacology/Molecular Biology to join our internationally recognised team led by Professor Sadaf Farooqi, Cambridge, UK and funded by the Wellcome Trust. Our aim is to understand the genetic and molecular basis of obesity and diabetes (Wheeler et al. Nature Genetics 2013; Pearce et al. Cell 2013; www.goos.org.uk ). The team participates in a wide variety of collaborative projects involving the functional characterisation of human mutations in cells and model organisms to explore new pathways involved in the pathogenesis of obesity. Your work will have important implications for the clinical management of patients, including the development of better patient stratification and the identification of novel therapeutic targets.
To be considered for this position, you must: - have a PhD in Pharmacology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or a closely related discipline - have experience of working on cellular studies of GPCRs/GPCR signaling - have at least two first-author publications in high-profile, internationally recognised journals
You should have experience with: - a broad range of molecular and cell biology techniques - experience of structural modelling of human mutations - have an understanding of human genetics - developing new technologies/tools for molecular and pharmacology studies
Responsibilities include functional characterization of human disease-associated mutations in cells and model organisms. You will have excellent communication and organisational skills as you will contribute to collaborative work and develop new external collaborations with partners in the Bio-tech and Pharmaceutical Industry. This position offers an ideal opportunity for a highly motivated scientist aiming to apply for Career Development Fellowships or Principal Investigator positions in the future.
Proposed start date: 1st June 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 24 months in the first instance.
