Deadline: 08 May 2024

This is an exciting opportunity to join a research group working to develop new therapies for age-related macular degeneration (AMD). This full-time PDRA funded by the Macular Society will investigate the potential of targeting senescent cells within the choriocapillaris to stop the progression of dry AMD. We will expand the scientific knowledge surrounding the molecular biology of cell ageing within blood cells in the choriocapillaris during dry AMD, to ultimately identify new therapies. To achieve this, you will bring research technical skills relevant to cellular senescence and/or vascular biology, and demonstrate knowledge and awareness of recent advances in AMD. You will be joining the research team of Professor Reinhold Medina at the Department of Eye and Vision Science in the Institute of Life Course and Medical Sciences.

You will have a PhD (or be about to obtain) in areas relevant to this post (e.g. cell biology, molecular biology, physiology, and related).

This post is available from 1 April 2024 until 31 March 2026.

Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30.  Upon written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 31 from the date of their award.

The University has the right to close the vacancy early if it is deemed that there have been enough applications received
