This full-time post is available immediately on a fixed-term basis until 31st March 2025. It is based within the Centre for Resilience in Environment, Water and Waste, at the Exeter Streatham Campus.

The Centre wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate to undertake applied research within the fields of water quality, hydrology and catchment management.

We are looking for a well-organised and self-motivated researcher to participate in a project related to South West Water’s award-winning Upstream Thinking catchment management programme. The successful candidate will work alongside a team of academics undertaking research on water quality monitoring for the Upstream Thinking programme. These will include data analyses and interpretation, such as processing and analysing spatial and temporal environmental datasets (e.g. water quality data), synthesising research and producing reports and contributing to project management to facilitate delivery of research activities. There will also be opportunities to conduct data collection and fieldwork in upland and lowland catchments.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to present information on project progress and outcomes and communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically. You will also be able to work collaboratively with academic colleagues, as well as key stakeholders from the third sector and industry.

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD (or nearing completion) or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes.

You will have good knowledge of water quality and hydrology, with a strong interest in catchment management science/catchment characterisation. You will be able to collate, analyse and visualise complex environmental data, such as datasets describing water quality and hydrology and timeseries data.
