Postdoctoral Research Associate

This part time (0.5FTE), Open Societies Foundation funded post is available from 1 February 2024 on a fixed term basis until 31 January 2025. This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home.

Summary of the role

The Faculty wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate to participate in a critical minerals and sustainability transitions impact project. The successful applicant will develop novel computational methods to evaluate socio-economic impacts of critical minerals mining in a number of to be defined case study regions.

The post will include the development of novel LLM and machine learning algorithms for the analysis of language text data. The post will develop a regional boundaries dashboard.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD (or nearing completion) or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful applicant will be a recognised authority in critical mining requirements from sustainability transport transitions, and the evaluation of mining impacts and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. Applicants will be able to implement and develop now machine learning algorithms and have experience of business analytics used in the mining industry.
