This part time (0.5FTE) post is available from 9th January 2023 for three years to work on the ESRC funded project: ‘UK-UK Couples after Brexit: migrantization and the UK family immigration regime’.

The post

The project is led by Professor Katharine Charsley (PI, Bristol) and Dr Helena Wray (Co-I, Exeter) and will document how UK-EU couples respond to the intrusion of immigration regulations into their intimate family lives after Brexit and the impact on political and legal discourses and practice of this expansion of the population affected by immigration regulations. The research team will also include a full-time Research Associate at University of Bristol and a part-time administrator also based at Bristol.

The successful candidate will be an experienced socio-legal researcher who will undertake the legal and socio-legal research for the project. Their duties will include reviewing and keeping up to date with the law, and relevant academic and policy literature. They will contribute to media analysis, research design, interviewee recruitment, data analysis, dissemination, impact and academic publications (leading on one publication). They will conduct some interviews with participant couples, support the Co-I in conducting expert interviews, contribute to the project website and social media presence and will participate in all project meetings and events.

About you

You will:

  • be able to undertake and present information on the research, and communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically
  • possess a relevant PhD (or close to completion), or an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study
  • demonstrate knowledge of immigration law and of research methods to work within an established research project
  • have an interest in the subject matter of the research
