Summary of the role

The Faculty wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate to support the work of Prof. Stephen P Hesselbo. This NERC funded post is available from 1 April 2023 until 30 September 2023. The successful applicant will support research on the Early Jurassic Timescale and Earth System project (JET), specifically with regard to the newly cored Prees-2 borehole.

The post will include Synthesis of descriptions, photographs, radiographs, geophysical and geochemical data from Prees-2 drill core, data analysis and archiving, and drafting of scientific and operational reports for publication. 

About you

The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD (or be nearing completion) or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants will be able to describe and interpret the sedimentology of mudstone, assist with the synthesis and interpretation of geophysical and geochemical data from core, and process, archive and interpret large complex datasets.
