This NERC funded post is available from 3 January 2022 to 2 January 2024 to participate in the research project: “EVOFLOOD: The Evolution of Global Flood Hazard and Risk”, which will investigate the controls on future changes in global river morphology and flood conveyance capacity.
The post
You will have a background, skills and knowledge in geomorphology, hydrology and/or environmental science appropriate for undertaking spatial data analysis and numerical modelling of fluvial and catchment processes.
The post will involve working with a team of national and international collaborators as part of the broader EVOFLOOD research project, which is a 5 year NERC funded initiative that includes researchers at 9 UK institutions. The successful applicant will focus on numerical modelling of catchment processes (sediment delivery to rivers and channel evolution), and will liaise with a team of project investigators, postdoctoral researchers and project partners to generate, manage, analyse and exchange large spatial datasets. The post will also involve disseminating results in research publications and at national and international conferences; and engaging in impact activities.
About you
You will:
- be able to lead/contribute to the development of research objectives, present information on research progress and outcomes
- make presentations at conferences and other events
- contribute to the preparation of proposals to external bodies
- possess a relevant PhD (or be nearing the completion for Grade E) or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study
- possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to contribute to and develop research programmes and methodologies
- be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader (Grade F) as required
- have a secure knowledge of relevant catchment and/or fluvial processes; expertise relevant to undertaking experimental design and the analysis of large spatial datasets; and experience of the application and evaluation of numerical models in geomorphic/hydrologic contexts
- be a nationally recognised authority in Environmental Science, Geomorphology or Hydrology (Grade F)
