This full-time position is available from 01/01/2023 for two years, with extension contingent upon ongoing funding.

The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences wishes to recruit a talented and self-motivated Post-Doctoral Researcher in Postdoctoral Researcher specialised in Synthetic Biology or recombinant Protein Engineering and Biochemistry to develop and validate new, bacterial metabolisms for the production of sustainable petroleum replacements (biofuels and green chemicals) from plant biomass or waste products.

The role focuses on the design, expression and biochemical characterisation of recombinant enzymes and pathways in industrially-relevant biocatalysts and is particularly suited to candidates with prior experience in synthetic or molecular biology, recombinant protein engineering, protein expression and purification in bacterial systems, biochemistry and metabolic analysis.

The successful candidate will integrate our multi-disciplinary team at the Exeter Microbial Biofuels Group and provide a leading role within the framework of the project. The postholder will be expected to deliver on research objectives, make presentations to industrial partners and at academic conferences, contribute to the process of securing research funds and to the production of peer-reviewed publications and/or patents, enabling them to pursue a research career in Academia or in Industry.  In addition to technical and academic experience, the ideal candidate will possess excellent organisational and communication skill, a collaborative and inquisitive personality and the ability to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others in the laboratory and act as a project lead.

The post-holder will work in the laboratory of Professor John Love at the Streatham campus of Exeter University.
