The post
The Faculty wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate or Fellow to participate in the following research project: “Propagation of hydro-geomorphic disturbances through continental-scale river basins”, which will utilize a combination of numerical modelling, field data collection and analysis of large spatial datasets to quantify the impacts on the rivers and floodplains of the Amazon drainage basin of future changes in climate, land use and anthropogenic activities such as dam construction. The successful applicant will have a background, skills and knowledge in fluvial geomorphology, hydrology and/or environmental science appropriate for numerical modelling of fluvial and catchment processes.
The post will involve working with a team of international collaborators; applying a range of numerical modelling tools to simulate river and floodplain evolution; assembling and analysing large spatial datasets; disseminating results in research publications and at national and international conferences; and engaging in impact activities.
About you
The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.
Applicants will possess a relevant PhD (or nearing completion for PDRA) or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority in Environmental Science, Geomorphology or Hydrology and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. Applicants will have a secure knowledge of relevant fluvial processes; expertise relevant to working with, processing and analysing large spatial datasets; and experience of the application and evaluate of numerical models in geomorphic/hydrologic contexts.
