Postdoctoral Research Associate in Mass Spectrometry

We are seeking a highly motivated and proactive Postdoctoral Research Associate specializing in proteomics to take on dedicated biomedical research projects that require advanced proteomics and mass spectrometry applications. You will be based at the Kennedy Institute, to work within the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences at the University of Oxford. The successful candidate will serve as the principal point of contact for proteomic work across the Kennedy Institute and drive novel in house method development.  You will be housed within the new Tissue Biology Platform, led by Prof Tonia Vincent, and the post will be based within the Midwood lab at Kennedy Institute and integrated with the Discovery Proteomics Facility Team, led by Prof Roman Fischer at the Target Discovery Institute (TDI). 

You will undertake sample preparation, troubleshooting, data generation, result reporting and first pass data analysis and support other scientist based in the Kennedy Institute in implementing advanced proteomics workflows in their research studies by guiding the development of research questions and study design. You will maintain and develop proteomic data analysis pipelines and participate in the education and training of other staff as necessary and appropriate in best practise MS data analysis, as well as display key interpersonal skills that facilitate collaboration across the spectrum of personnel and projects within the Kennedy Institute. 

You will hold or be close to completion of a relevant PhD/DPhil in biological sciences (biology, immunology, medicine, biochemistry), or analytical chemistry with post-qualification research experience and have a strong publication record and proven experience in running proteomics / mass spectrometry-based research in an academic or commercial environment. Good knowledge and understanding of the mass spectrometry/proteomics technology for discovery, biomarker and target discovery platforms in the biological science context and extensive knowhow and hands-on experience on how to operate and run LC-MS/MS equipment (mainly Thermo Instruments) with high experience in troubleshooting and problem solving to ensure the smooth running of the multiple projects is essential. Experience of managing a research budget is desirable. 

This is a fixed-term, full time position for 3 years.
