Postdoctoral Research Associate in Long Covid Diagnostics Grade 7

Updated: 26 days ago
Location: Liverpool, ENGLAND
Deadline: 02 Apr 2024

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to develop new instruments at the interface between engineering and life sciences. The project aims to translate research on the role amyloid microclots in long covid into a diagnostic instrument that can be used to aid diagnosis. The project is a collaboration between the Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics and the Institute of Systems, Molecular and Integrative Biology. Dr Hoettges has a track record in designing analytical instruments while Professor Kell has a longstanding interest in the effects of microclots. Your role will be designing an integrated low-cost instrument that can detect and quantify microclots in blood plasma samples using fluorescence imaging, aiming for a low-cost, open-source instrument that can be widely deployed in research and diagnostics and be decentral manufactured using widely available components. This will involve CAD design for 3D printing, embedded systems to control the instrument, and integration on a systems level. We are committed to building and maintaining a fair and inclusive working environment and we would be happy to discuss arrangements for flexible and/or blended working. This position is available on a fixed-term contract basis until 6 January 2025, (with possibility of  extension).

To apply, please complete an online application and upload a CV and a cover letter. Your cover letter is a supporting statement, and you should outline how you meet the essential criteria of the role and evidence this with examples.

Informal enquiries and requests for more detailed project information should be directed to Dr Kai Hoettges, email: [email protected]
