Postdoctoral Research Associate in Chemistry

Updated: 3 months ago
Location: Oxford, ENGLAND
Deadline: 07 Feb 2024

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Chemistry to work under the supervision of Professor Philipp Kukura for a period of up to 2 years.  Our research group develops and applies methodologies to detect, image and characterise biomolecules and the complexes they form. We have developed mass photometry, a technique that uses light scattering to visualise single biomolecules in solution and to measure their mass, with high accuracy, precision, resolution, sensitivity and dynamic range. This project is part of a wider programme of work to develop and implement the technological advances to realise the potential of mass photometry as a transformative biophysical tool for molecular biophysics, drug discovery and diagnostics. The project aims at both significantly improving existing experimental approaches to mass photometry, and developing completely new approaches by transforming the associated optical platform. The candidate will benefit from experience with the design, construction and interfacing of complex optical experimental setups in the broader field of optical microscopy. Ideally, the candidate would have explicit hands-on experience with interferometric scattering microscopy.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Physics, Chemistry, or a related area or be close to completion, prior to taking up your appointment.  The research requires experience in optical microscopy, ideally with a background in photonics and advanced microscopy techniques.  You will be expected to manage your own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, co-ordinating multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines.

Applications are welcome from candidates who don’t currently have the right to work in the UK, but who would be eligible to obtain a visa.
