Job Purpose – You will contribute to the discovery and applied research in the area of algal biotechnology and to the development of research in this field.  Working within the Associate Director of Science, Enterprise & Innovation’s research group at SAMS.

Types of activities – You will be expected to conduct fundamental and applied research in algal biotechnology, contributing to already established projects, such as the H2020 funded project ASTRAL, as well contributing ideas to the development of new projects. The post will mainly be lab based potentially with a field work component to support research at the SAMS seaweed farm depending on the successful candidate’s experience.  There will also be opportunities to attend meetings and conferences.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the supervision and lecturing of postgraduate and undergraduate students There is the potential of becoming a module leader on either the undergraduate BSc in Marine Science or postgraduate Masters courses based at SAMS.

The successful candidate should have a PhD in algae, mariculture, or plant science. Knowledge of bioprocessing/biorefinery approaches would be advantageous as well as strong experience of biochemistry and/or molecular biology.
