We are seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious postdoctoral research associate to pursue a project to investigate network activity in 2D and 3D cortical networks derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs).

The PDRA will use high resolution MEA and calcium imaging together with opto- and chemogenetic approaches to determine functional aspects of human cortical network activity, plasticity and information processing.

The PDRA will work in the groups of Prof. Rhein Parri and Dr. Eric Hill in the College of Health and Life Sciences. The Parri group has a longstanding interest in control of neuronal activity and synaptic modulation, and particularly the role of glial and other cells.

Applicants should have a PhD in Neuroscience/hiPSC neuronal culture or a related field, with experience of electrophysiological recordings or calcium imaging.   A knowledge of cortical synaptic or network function would be an advantage.

The PDRA will be part of an EU- H2020 funded FET OPEN project “Neuronal networks from cortical human IPSCs for Machine Learning Processing (NeuChiP)”( www.neuchip.eu ) and will become part of a team of cross-disciplinary researchers team across Europe. The PDRA will interact with iPSC, mathematics and machine learning experts at Aston and Physicists, mathematicians and neuromorphic computing experts in the other partners. The position will be based in the College of Life and Health Sciences at Aston University Birmingham and will report to Prof. Rhein Parri, and Dr. Eric Hill.
