Barts Cancer Institute, Centre for Cancer Genomics and Computational Biology
Post title: Postdoctoral Research Assistant Post ref: QMUL26122
About the Role
We are looking for a self-motivated and independent-thinking wet-lab scientist to explore new methods to decipher specific genome instability mechanisms from cancer genomes. You will be working with a genomics bioinformatician to analyse the data and devise relevant genomic signatures. We are therefore looking for someone with a keen interest and background knowledge in the fundamentals of accurate human cell division processes, and the ability to interact with non-computational and computational colleagues.
About You
You will have a PhD in a relevant subject, and be skilled in the majority of wet-lab techniques required to complete the project. You will have experience with replication stress in cancer, specifically how to induce and manipulate replication stress in human cells. You will have a good understanding of the role of genome instability in tumour heterogeneity and evolution, and an understanding of cell division processes.
About the School/Department/Institute/Project
The Barts Cancer Institute (BCI) hosts some of the most eminent cancer research teams in London. As part of the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry (Queen Mary University of London), research at the BCI focuses on how to reduce the burden of disease and improve patient survival through early detection and diagnosis and the discovery and development of more effective and innovative therapies.
The McClelland laboratory has recently developed a genetic replication stress signature by analyzing the immediate effects of replication stress on the genome at the single-cell level (Mazzagatti et al, BioRXiv, 2020). This project builds on these findings and will integrate further experimental modelling of additional replication stresses, with bioinformatic approaches to analyse related replication stress signatures from tumour genomes.

Benefits
We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum (pro-rata for part-time/fixed-term), a season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities.
The post is based at the Charterhouse Square campus in London. It is full time (35 hours per week), fixed term appointment for 12 months, with an expected start date of Wednesday 12th January 2021. The starting salary will be Grade 4/5, £34,733 - £45,479 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

Informal enquiries should be addressed to Nick Summerfield at[email protected] .
The closing date for applications is Friday 10th December 2021.
