The School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) is an exciting and dynamic environment with a research portfolio of £42M. We are seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to participate in the EPSRC funded project “Adaptive Tools for Electromagnetics and Materials Modelling to Bridge the Gap between Design and Manufacturing (AOTOMAT)”. The research will be undertaken under the supervision of the principal investigator. The project is dedicated to develop new modelling tools for the design of electromagnetic devices, materials, and systems in an industrial context. A novel computational tool-set will be developed, based on recent scientific advances in electromagnetics, atomistic-scale material, optimization, and data-driven modelling both at the functional-structural dimensions and over the multi-scale geometric complexity. The first step of the project will be to come out with a design scheme for specific required configuration. The second work step is to physically validate the predictions of the down-selected prototypes through manufacturing and testing them in laboratory environment.
The ideal candidate will possess an excellent knowledge of Antenna modelling, design, and characterization, and optimization processes. Experience in multi-physics and multi-scale problems and knowledge of Additive Manufacturing will be an advantage. In addition, applicants will have at least good skills in numerical modeling techniques, knowledge of the common programming languages such as C/C++, Python, Matlab. The candidate should have completed the PhD before taking up the post; good communication skills are also welcome.
The post is full time, fixed term appointment for 24 months, with an expected start date of August 2017 or as soon as possible. The starting salary will be in the range of £32,405 – £38,062, inclusive of London Allowance.
