We are looking for one exceptional candidate to join our team at the Endorobotics lab at the School of Medicine led by Dr Luigi Manfredi, and the Computer Vision and Image Processing team at the School of Engineering, led by Professor Emanuele Trucco, to work on an autonomous endorobot for screening and treatment of colorectal cancer.

The successful candidate will work on AI algorithm and/or robotics mechatronic design to implement an autonomous soft-endorobot for colonoscopy. This work includes the implementation of autonomous locomotion strategies and surgical tasks, contribution to design the actuation and sensory systems, the design of a user interface for controlling and testing, the integration of the vision system developed by the team.

This vacancy has been created by a major EPSRC grant awarded to the University of Dundee and led by Dr Luigi Manfredi, which will undertake interdisciplinary research to develop a low-cost, disposable, autonomous Soft Endorobot (SoftEn) to screen and treat the large bowel with minimal discomfort.

Your priorities will include:

  • Play a lead role in establishing the research project.
  • Undertake a broad range of research on endorobots for endoscopy.
  • Perform bench research related to the major goals of the project.
  • Work alongside other members of the research group.

Who we’re looking for:

  • PhD degree in a relevant engineering subject, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Previous experience of laboratory research in a relevant discipline (e.g., robotics, computer vision, AI & machine learning).
  • A track record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while operating as part of a team.
  • Coach and supervise junior staff and students
