Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Pulsar Science with MeerTIME. The post is available initially for a fixed-term duration of 3 years.
This project will be to reduce and analyse data from the MeerKAT MeerTIME programme, to answer key questions on the geometry, magnetospheres, and temporal variability observed in radio pulsars. The successful applicant will become a key member of the MeerTIME collaboration, and specifically the 1000 Pulsar Array Project, which has been awarded significant telescope time on the MeerKAT telescope. As such they will also have the opportunity to contribute to the wide-ranging science goals of the programme (see: www.meertime.org).
The successful candidate will analyse data from the MeerTIME project to understand key parameters of the radio pulsar population and their temporal evolution. Tasks will include collaborating in the preparation of scientific papers and publishing the research in refereed journals, adapting existing and developing new scientific techniques to meet the goals of the project and contributing to the MeerTIME collaboration through attendance of teleconferences and meetings. The postholder will have the opportunity to teach.
Applicants should hold, or be close to completion of, a PhD in astrophysics or a related field with a background in pulsar astrophysics. Experience in the field of pulsar data analysis and computer code development will be an advantage.
Candidates are expected to demonstrate how they have worked in a team towards a specified goal, and have a publication record commensurate with their experience.
Please direct enquiries about the role to Dr Aris Karastergiou (firstname.lastname@example.org ).
You will be required to upload a brief statement of research interests, CV as part of your online application and to submit two references to: email@example.com , by the closing date.
Only applications received before 12.00 midday on 18 February 2019 can be considered.
