Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Physics, who will work on an EPSRC funded project entitled “Perfecting Halide Perovskites: From Precursor Ink Chemistry to Defect Control.”
The position is available for a fixed-term duration of 24 months with the research focus being on probing perovskite precursor ink chemistry and its impact on defect formation and stability in thin-films and devices.
This project will advance the fundamental understanding of the impact of perovskite precursor ink chemistry on crystallisation and defect formation in halide perovskite thin-films. Halide perovskites are a class of low-cost, high-quality semiconductor materials which have the potential to enter and make significant impact in the photovoltaic (PV) and LED markets.
Importantly, by taking a bottom-up approach, this project aims to generate a detailed understanding of the chemistry of perovskite precursor inks, map the conversion processes from precursor ink to perovskite thin-film, and identify how and why manipulating the chemistry of precursor inks, grain boundaries and interfaces affects the nature and concentration of the defects, and the chemical composition and optoelectronic properties of perovskite thin-films. Through gaining understanding and control of these systems from a microscopic level, this project aims to deliver improved reproducibility and performance of perovskite PV and LEDs.
The successful candidate will focus primarily on detailed characterisation of various standard, and novel precursor ink chemistries through a variety of techniques including NMR spectroscopy. These inks will then be used to deposit thin-films which will undergo in-situ and ex-situ structural and optoelectronic characterisation to reveal the impact of precursor ink chemistry on defect formation and the long-term stability of films and devices.
The post-holder will have the opportunity to teach.
Applicants should possess or be close to obtaining a PhD in physics, materials science, chemistry, engineering, or a related field.
Applicants should be highly experienced, and have an established track record, in the development of halide perovskite materials and devices. Experience in solution-based characterisation techniques such as NMR is desirable. Previous experience with GIWAXS/GISAXS would be advantageous.
Applicants should be highly motivated and have excellent skills in working collaboratively as part of a team. They should be able to set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks with deadlines and adapt to evolving scientific questions. A good track record of high-quality publications is desirable. Having the ability to direct your own research and interpret your results independently is a must.
Please direct enquiries about the role to Dr. Nakita K. Noel
Only applications received before midday (UK time) 16th February 2024 can be considered.
You will be required to upload a statement of research interests, CV and details of two referees as part of your online application.
