Postdoctoral Research Assistant in AI for Polymer Design

Updated: over 1 year ago
Location: Oxford, ENGLAND
Deadline: 07 Oct 2022

We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join the Computational Health Informatics (CHI) Laboratory, in the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, in the Department of Engineering Science (Headington), working alongside colleagues in the Solid Mechanics Group in the same department.  The post is funded by the EPSRC and is fixed-term for 12 months.

These posts are part of a collaboration with colleagues in Engineering Science and the Department of Chemistry.  You will be responsible for developing machine learning methods to improve our understanding of structure-property relationships in polymers. This will be based on the development and synthesis of bespoke polymers with unique control over the chemical structure, and state of the art measurements of the properties of these polymers.  The methods you produce will play a major role in the development of sustainable, optimized polymers in the future.

You should have a PhD (or be close to completion) in machine learning, computer science, signal processing, computational statistics, or cognate discipline.  You should also have experience of working in a highly interdisciplinary team, with a good publication record in the scientific literature.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Prof. David Clifton of the Department of Engineering Science (email: [email protected]).

Only online applications received before midday on 7th October 2022 can be considered. You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement, including a brief statement of research interests (describing how past experience and future plans fit with the advertised position), CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application.

The Department holds an Athena Swan Bronze award, highlighting its commitment to promoting women in Science, Engineering and Technology.
