Deadline: 22 Apr 2024

We seek a Postdoctoral Research Assistant for a new project focused on building novel LLM-based agent systems.

The post-holder will be part of a small focused team, working closely with the PI, to build the software infrastructure necessary to support both novel technical developments and to deliver tools necessary for the applied (climate change mitigation) focus of the project. The position principally requires expertise in Python programming and strong experience in software development and deployment. Prior experience developing AI applications using large language models would be beneficial. A strong quantitative background (e.g., computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering) is a requirement.

The PDRA will also be expected to assist in the production of published material, and to make occasional contributions to grant-writing to support ongoing developments of the project. This project will provide the opportunity to experience first-hand how-to bring research into practical application, connect with top researchers, policy experts, practitioners and business leaders, and contribute to meaningful timely solutions to climate and environmental problems.

The successful candidate should possess a PhD/DPhil in an applied quantitative subject (e.g. computer science, applied mathematics, economics, physics, engineering, quantitative ecology). They will have excellent Python development skills, including code optimization and deployment, and experience with version-control systems (ideally git),software testing, and a keen demonstrable interest in AI and Large Language Models.   Benchmarking the accuracy of model/software outputs and working both independently and as a member of a team to address shortfalls is an important part of this role. An interest in the application of research to current environment problems would be welcomed. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.

Applications are particularly welcome and encouraged from women candidates and black and minority ethnic candidates who are under-represented in academic posts in Oxford. SoGE is committed to equality and values diversity.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application.
