Deadline: 13 Jun 2022

College of Medicine and Health

This new part-time post is available from 1st June 2022 on a fixed term basis until 30th November 2022. The post is 40% FTE, although lower FTE and longer duration is potentially available.

Summary of the role

The College of Medicine and Health wishes to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate (0.4FTE) to work on two interrelated multiple methods projects, funded by Health Education England (HEE) and the Severn training deanery.  The projects, which will be led by Professor Michael Harris and Professor Gordon Taylor, will evaluate two intervention programmes to support and retain trainee GPs.

The first project is an evaluation of an education programme for GPs who have either failed or at significant risk of failing the video component of the end stage MRCGP examination (which they must pass in order to work as GPs).  The second, larger, component of the research is to evaluate the support and retention of International Medical Graduates (IMGs) as they transition to independent practice post CCT.

This post holder will be required to work as part of a small research team to support and undertake qualitative work (semi-structured interviews, thematic data analysis) as well as a quantitative component (survey), to answer the research questions.  Previous experience in conducting research with health professionals and/or within primary care would be an advantage.  The potholder will be have access to both qualitative and quantitative support and supervision as required, but will be expected to independently manage the day to day running and organisation of the research and to be experienced in all stages of research including gaining ethical approvals, writing for publication and presenting the outputs of the work.
