Postdoctoral Fellows in Distributed Acoustic Sensing

Updated: about 1 year ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 25 Feb 2023

About the job

The Department of Electronic Systems , NTNU, has vacancy for two Post Doctoral fellowships within distributed acoustic sensing (DAS).

The two positions are part of the European Horizon-Infra-2022-Tech-01 program under the project entitled  “SUBMERSE” (SUBMarine cablEs for ReSearch and Exploration). NTNU is one of 24 partners in the project that lasts for 3 years. The overall objective of the project is to develop a new world-class research instrument integrating already existing infrastructures from there European nations as well as Pan-European and Pan-American institutions, to disseminate SOP and DAS data. Both Post Doc positions will be integrated in the Centre for Geophysical Forecasting (CGF) , which is one of the Norwegian centres for research-driven innovation, funded by the Research Council of Norway and research and industry partners.

The successful applicants will work at the CGF premises at NTNU in Trondheim in our team of key researchers.  The Post Doc research fellowships will be hosted by the Department of Electronic Systems. The successful candidates will be offered 2-year positions, which could potentially be extended with teaching duties. The aim of the SUBMERSE project is to provide continuous recording of scientific data, especially focused on solid earth and marine science research.

Your immediate leader is the Head of Department.

Duties of the positions

The Post Doc projects will be conducting research on datasets acquired using one or several DAS interrogators. The applications of advanced DAS-methods are multifold: environmental monitoring (for instance whales), earthquake monitoring, monitoring underground storage of CO₂, land slide forecasting and oceanography.

An important part of the Post Doc projects is to collaborate with the other European partners in the project and use data from other regions for comparison as well as enhanced understanding. The Post Doc research will be in a team of scientists in statistics, computer science, electronic systems and geophysics. The post docs will hence be part of a cross-disciplinary team all working towards a common goal in the project.

The post docs will be given responsibility for planning, performing and analysis of geophysical and environmental DAS-data from various field experiments.
