About the position 

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (IMA) has a vacant position as Postdoctoral Fellow within the field of Li-ion battery technology. The position is affiliated to the battery research currently ongoing in the research center Mozees (www.mozees.no ), with partners from research and industry. Research will be focused on high voltage /high energy cathodes (LNMO or layered oxides), stability of electrolytes and/or environmentally friendly processing of Ni-rich cathodes.

The overall aim is to improve the stability of materials by focusing on the interfaces to binders and electrolytes. Focus is also on solutions to reduce the environmental footprint during production.

Duties of the position

  • Characterization/fabrication of materials and laboratory scale battery cells using state-of-the art infrastructure at Department of Materials Science and Engineering (IMA)
  • Presentation of results at project meetings and national and international workshops and conferences
  • Preparation of scientific papers
  • Participate actively in collaborative efforts within the project group

The candidate is expected to participate actively in the battery community at NTNU and at Department of Materials Science and Engineering, including mentoring and co-supervision of PhD and master students. 

Travelling with respect to conferences, meetings, workshops may be expected as part of the position. 

Required selection criteria

A postdoctoral research fellowship is a qualification position in which the main objective is qualification for work in academic positions. You must have completed a Norwegian doctoral degree in Chemistry or Materials Technology, or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree is required.

We are looking for candidates whose experiences comply well to those described under “duties of the position”, and in addition can demonstrate:

  • Preferred candidates should have extensive and hands-on experiences in advanced characterization techniques, like electrochemical techniques,  XPS, FIB-SEM, S(T)EM, or spectroscopic techniques.
  • Excellent knowledge of battery materials and technologies.
  • Ability to publish scientific papers
  • Good written and oral English skills

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant

Salary and conditions

As a Postdoctoral Fellow (code 1352) you are normally paid from gross NOK 545 300 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. 

The period of employment is 2 years.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work. 

The position is subject to external funding. 

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution on a daily basis.
