About the position 

There is a temporary position available at the Department of Industrial Economics and Technology Management (IØT) as Postdoctoral Fellow for a period of 2 years. The position is resident at NTNU’s campus in Trondheim, Norway. The position is connected to the Health, Safety and Environmental management group at the Department of Industrial Economics and Technology Management. The Faculty of Economics and Management will be your main employer.

The position is part of the Collaborative and Knowledge-building Project “Enhancing the potential of Calanus as raw material for sustainable aquaculture feed ingredients (CalaFeed), funded by the Norwegian Research Council (RCN). This is an industry-academia collaborative project that will provide the candidate with an opportunity to work with relevant industry, research and academic partners related to aquaculture sector. There will also be flexibility and time for the candidate to work on its own individual research initiatives and ideas.

The main goal of the project is to enhance the potential of Calanus as an aquafeed ingredient, contributing to a sustainable growth of the Norwegian aquaculture sector. The project will develop handling and processing technologies for production of nutritional feed ingredients and evaluate their effect in feeding trials. NTNU as a project partner will contribute by developing knowledge on the potential of commercial production of feed ingredients from Calanus and evaluate environmental, economic, and social sustainability, thereby fulfilling the requirements in the RCN call of "sustainable feed ingredients".

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be in the section of Health, safety and environmental management (HMS) research group and focus on sustainability assessment (environmental, economic and social impacts) of fish-feed ingredients made from the zooplankton Calanus finmarchicus. The tools such as Multi Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA), life cycle analysis (LCA) or Life Cycle Costing (LCC) will be applied to map the impacts on environment, economy and social category of sustainability. The position is a part of WP4 of the project CalaFeed and will be supervised by NTNU and SINTEF Ocean.

Job description

  • This position will jointly develop activities and research questions within the funded NFR project “CalaFeed”
  • Develop and carry out data collections for building multi-criteria decision analysis model for sustainability assessment of selected fish-feed alternatives
  • Develop and engage in research activities in collaboration with other project partners
  • Participation in relevant national or international conferences, publication of annual reports, and peer-reviewed journal publications to disseminate the research results
  • The position also allows for the postdoctoral fellow to carry on its own research activities and ideas to generate new project applications

Required selection criteria

  • Completion of a Norwegian doctoral degree in Industrial ecology, Environmental management or Sustainability assessment or a closely related field, or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree is required. Candidates in the final stages of their PhD (with submitted thesis) may also apply.
  • Experience with Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) and Life cycle Analysis (LCA) modelling.
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English

Desired qualifications

  • Publication of applicant’s research in recognized international journals within the field
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to conduct surveys and interviews with stakeholders to collect data
  • Experience from work in EU or national research projects
  • Basic knowledge of Norwegian language (Level A2/B1) is preferred and would be considered an important advantage
  • Basic knowledge of Matlab or R-package would be considered an advantage
  • Project management or project development experience

Salary and conditions

Postdoctoral candidates are remunerated in code 1352, presently at gross NOK 553 500,- before tax per year. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The period of employment is 2 years.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant  , and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU
