About the position

We have a vacancy for a Post Doctoral Researcher position in the project “Improved Pathology Detection in Wireless Capsule Endoscopy Images through Artificial Intelligence and 3D Reconstruction”. The project focuses on applying artificial intelligence and 3D reconstruction to facilitate better pathology detection through wireless capsule endoscopy video stream and thereby simplify the screening and planning task performed by gastroenterologists.

Place of work will be at the Department of Computer Science in Gjøvik.

The position reports to Head of Department. 

Duties of the position

The position will focus on developing data-efficient learning method for automated pathology detections in the gastrointestinal tract and develop enhanced automatic pathology detection algorithms based on 3D data, as well as automatically construct 3D model in areas of interest for assessment by gastroenterologists. 

Required selection criteria

A postdoctoral research fellowships is a qualification position in which the main objective is qualification for work in academic positions. A Norwegian doctoral degree in computer science, image processing, computer vision or a similar field, or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree, is required.

The candidate must have: 

  • A very strong background in image processing and computer vision.
  • A very strong background in machine learning.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant .

Preferred selection criteria

  • Experience from medical image processing.
  • Background or experience from video processing.
  • Experience with weakly supervised learning or unsupervised learning.
  • Background in or experience with 3D reconstruction.
  • A background or experience in deep learning frameworks (Tensorflow, Keras, or PyTorch).
  • Eagerness to disseminate research results through scientific publications and presentations at international conferences.

Personal characteristics

  • A high level of personal responsibility, initiative, motivation and ability to work in a project team as well as independently.
  • Very good written and oral English language skills.
  • Good organization and communication skills with interest in wider context than their own research and ability to engage in crossdisciplinary and cross-sectorial teams.

Salary and conditions

The employment period is 2 years.

Postdoctoral candidates are placed in code 1352, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 545 300 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution daily.
