Applications are invited for a Fixed-term post until 29 February 2024 of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Biology & Environmental Science.

An exciting new multi-disciplinary project (EXTREMES) is seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Researcher for a period of one year. This is a collaborative one-year scoping project with researchers in University College Dublin to identify the potential impacts of extreme climate events on Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) and Special Protection Areas (SPAs) in Ireland and inform research needs.

This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.

The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.

In addition to the Principal Duties and Responsibilities listed below, the successful candidate will carry out the following duties specific to this project:

  • Review and synthesise the likely range and nature of extreme climate events on ecosystems of relevance to Ireland.
  • Explore and identify the range of potential impacts of extreme climate events on Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) and Special Protection Areas (SPAs) in Ireland.
  • Assess the vulnerability and risk posed by climate change inferences to the SACs and SPAs.
  • Identify key knowledge and data gaps that need to be addressed by future research priorities that will contribute to policy.

Salary range: 42,023 - 45,819 per annum

Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
