Fixed-Term/24 months/Full-time, 35 hours per week

We are looking for a post-doctoral research fellow to conduct original research in the field of renal and ureter tissue engineering from human iPS cells.

The Opportunity:

This is an opportunity to work in this Edinburgh lab, as part of an international consortium to advance the state of renal tissue engineering. The successful candidate would be primarily tasked with engineering of ureters (something pioneered by the host lab) while other post-docs in the lab will be focussing on vasculature, and further aspects of renal engineering will take place elsewhere in the consortium. Laster on in the project the candidate will work with other members of the lab to integrate both aspects of renal engineering.

The work of this position will use mainly human iPS cells. The project may involve harvesting of mouse tissue, but no handling of live animals will be involved.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • PhD/ DPhil (expected or near completion) or equivalent in stem cell science/ tissue engineering or a closely related discipline. Post-doctoral experience would be an advantage.
  • Specific experience working with human iPS, experience with renal/ureter systems, and FACS would be an advantage
  • Willingness to help with other projects in the group where this is reasonable, and to accept help from others in the group where this will help progress. Good 'lab manners' are essential (tidiness, not using the last of something without making more, etc.).
  • Excellent English communication skills, written and oral.
  • Ability to begin soon after interview (this is critical because the project has already begun and other members of the consortium depend on advances made in this position, so it cannot be delayed by months however good a candidate is).
