Offer Description

A three-year post-doctoral position is available to investigate development and applications of light switchable systems for applications in quantum gates using Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) and other physical methods. This position is funded by an EPSRC grant manged by Dr Alice Bowen, and the successful candidate will work closely with a team of researchers including Prof. Richard Winpenny and Prof. Eric McInnes of the Manchester University molecular magnets group (https://www.molmag.manchester.ac.uk/ ) and the UK’s National Research Facility for EPR Resonance (https://www.chemistry.manchester.ac.uk/epr/ ).

As part of this project the successful applicant will have access to the largest range of EPR equipment in the UK, with pulsed and continuous wave instrumentation operating at 1 to 34 GHz. This project is focused on the development and application of light-induced EPR for potential applications in molecular quantum information processing. As part of this role the successful application will also receive a training budget of £1500 per year to spend on professional development activities, including some time and flexibility to develop their own research ideas as part of this role in discussion with Dr Bowen to ensure that suitable facilities are available.

The post-doctoral researcher will also have the opportunity to supervise and train less experienced group members, PhD students and masters students associated with this project. 

The post-doctoral researcher will prepare reports and deliver presentations both internally and, as appropriate, externally at conferences on the work conducted. The post-doctoral researcher will prepare manuscripts of papers emanating from the work.
