Updated: about 1 month ago
Location: Cambridge, ENGLAND
Deadline: 15 Nov 2021

The Wellcome - Medical Research Council Cambridge Stem Cell Institute is an international centre of excellence for stem cell research and regenerative medicine. Scientists in the Institute collaborate to advance our knowledge of various stem cell types and to perform pioneering work in translational research areas, providing the foundation for new medical treatments ( ).

Applications are invited to join a dynamic team led by Dr Sanjay Sinha ( and ), working to advance novel stem cell therapies to regenerate damaged hearts. The focus of this exciting project will be on ways to use the regenerative properties of human pluripotent stem cell-derived epicardium and cardiomyocytes for cardiac regeneration and to investigate the underlying molecular mechanisms. The successful applicant will work as part of a larger team incorporating other postdocs, students and technicians.

We have established novel in vitro systems using human ES and iPS cells from which epicardium may be generated (Iyer et al Development 2015;142:1528-41, Gambardella et al Development 2019;146:dev174441) and which provides an ideal platform for studies in cardiovascular regenerative medicine (Bargehr et al Nature Biotech 2019;37:895-906).

You will have a PhD with a strong background in cell and molecular biology and a good publication record. It is essential that you have excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to work collaboratively. Prior experience with myocardial infarction models in rodents and/or in single cell RNA sequencing will be advantageous.

Closing date for all application is Monday 15th Nov 2021 with interviews scheduled for Friday 3rd Dec 2021 (TBC).
