The Faculty of Media and Communication at Bournemouth University is one of the largest of its kind in the world and has a global reputation for combining research and teaching practice.  The Department of Media Production offers outstanding education, research, and industry-leading professional work. The National Centre for Computer Animation (NCCA) is the leading centre for teaching production and research in computer animation and digital effects.

We are looking to recruit a research assistant to contribute to a research project investigating responsible AI in the context of media creation, focusing on collaboration, creativity, and representation, including concerns about copyright, job security and other ethical and legal challenges. The research is being led by an interdisciplinary team at Bournemouth University – Dr. Szilvia Ruszev, Dr. Maxine Gee, Dr. Melanie Stockton-Brown, Dr. Tom Davis, and Professor Xiaosong Yang. Collaboration partners are coming from University of Michigan–Ann Arbor (USA) and Zhejiang University (China). The position offers an excellent opportunity: to be part of an international research environment; to develop research, management, and leadership skills in a dynamically evolving and attractive research field beneficial for further academic/research career and publishing; to use the opportunity to network in an academic, industry and policy making environment.

The Research Fellow will mainly be involved in undertaking thorough research into existing and emerging scholarly literature, including current trends within industry publications and reports, on generative A.I. in the creative industries and collate that research into literature reviews. Furthermore, evaluate and write up data from the literature review, the workshops and other project related events into the final report and outputs.

We are looking for a proactive, self-motivated individual with excellent communication skills, problem solving abilities, attention to detail and effective team-working skills. You will have expertise in Film and Media Studies (earned or close to finishing PhD degree) and advance knowledge in in one of the following areas: AI, media creation, animation, law, qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.

This position does not meet the eligibility requirements for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker Route within the UK Visa and Immigration service’s Points Based System .  Therefore, BU will not be able to sponsor individuals who require permission to work to carry out this position.
