The Migrant Health research group has a number of projects at international, national and regional level, with a particular focus on public involvement in research.

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a post-doctoral research assistant to join the Migrant Health Research Group, under the supervision of Professor Maria Maynard. The selected candidate will assist with supporting the migrant health research group in producing high-quality research, publications and grant applications related to global, refugee and migrant health. Experience of health-related research in and/or relevant to sub-Saharan Africa is essential.

Migrant Health Research group

Our migrant health research programme aims to take an interdisciplinary approach to understanding and addressing avoidable and systemic health inequalities. Our goal is to build a reputation for raising the profile of migrant and ethnic inequalities in health as a fundamental aspect of health inequality requiring specific, sustained attention. We apply that knowledge to the iterative development of interventions to improve health which prioritises the perspectives of underserved communities.

You should hold (or have submitted) a relevant PhD and be able to demonstrate an appropriate level of research.

Previous experience should include health-related research in and/or relevant to sub-Saharan Africa, with a particular aptitude in the following areas:

• Literature searches and analysis of published research;
• Questionnaire, interview, anthropometry and biomarker data collection;
• Some experience of quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills (e.g. multiple regression analysis; thematic analysis).
• Ability to prepare research reports and present research data within agreed timescales.
• Understanding and/ or application of one or more relevant theoretical perspectives such as life course approach, social determinants of health and other socio-ecological models.
• Team working, planning and organisation, and effective communication with a range of audiences.

In addition, applicants will be expected to contribute to the wider research of the Migrant Health Research group.
