Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in Philosophy in the Faculty of Arts (Ref.: 508783), to commence as soon as possible for a period of two years.

Applicants should have completed a Ph.D. degree in relevant fields of philosophy or cognitive science by the time of appointment. The position is open to all areas of specialization, but applicants will need to provide a plan for a two-year research project related to the philosophy of AI or philosophy of technology more generally.

This appointment will be affiliated with Chair Professor Herman Cappelen’s new research group: AI&Humanity-Lab@HKU (AI&H).  The Post-doctoral Fellow is expected to participate actively in the work of AI&H. Applicants should submit project proposals (max. 5 pages) that falls within the project’s remit, including but not limited to: explainable and interpretable AI, the ethics and politics of AI, AI governance, algorithmic bias, the alignment problem, AI risk, AI and the extended mind thesis, the role of AI in online communication, and the metaphysics of virtual reality.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.
