Position Overview

KU is seeking a highly motivated Post-doctoral Fellow to work on a funded project in the area of universal algebra, combinatorics, discrete mathematics, and their applications. The project will specifically focus on clones, clonoids, minions, and non-associativity and related topics. While the motivations and goals of the project are in the development of the mathematical theory, it bears links to theoretical computer science, especially to the theory of computational complexity of constraint satisfaction problems.

The candidate will develop the mathematical theory of clones, clonoids, minions, and non-associativity, and related topics, or work on their applications, e.g., in theoretical computer science.

Position Requirements

  • Strong background in universal algebra, combinatorics, discrete mathematics, or related areas
  • Ability to disseminate research findings in journal articles, seminars, and conferences
  • Collaboration with senior scientists locally and internationally
  • Adherence to the University's information security and confidentiality policies and procedures, and reporting breaches or other security risks accordingly
  • Performing any other tasks assigned by the Line Manager

Candidate Profile

Essential Criteria

  • PhD from a reputable university in mathematics or related discipline.
  • Experience writing scientific research papers
  • A willingness to contribute to a collaborative and supportive team culture
  • Excellent English language communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • The proven ability to work on multiple tasks with competing demands and deadlines.
  • Ability to train and mentor students and support fellow researchers
  • Highly developed reasoning and problem-solving skills

Desired Criteria

  • PhD gained from a top 200 QS or THE ranked University
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience as a Post-doctoral researcher in academia or in industry.
  • High impact publications in top 10% journals in the relevant field
