Professor Francesco Paparella in the Division of Science, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a postdoctoral associate to work on innovative numerical methods for phytoplankton modeling and on developing a second-generation ocean circulation model for the Arabian Gulf.

The successful applicant will compare plankton and, more generally, ocean biogeochemical models based on Lagrangian methods, on first- and second-order closures and on PDF-based parameterizations. He or she will also assist other team members in the development of the second generation of a ocean circulation model for the Arabian Gulf, in particular focusing on imposing boundary conditions drawn from the ERA5 reanalysis, from the CMIP6 Earth-system models, and from the climatological scenarios for the Gulf region developed by the newly formed ACCESS (Arabian Center for Climate and Environmental Sciences) research center at NYU Abu Dhabi. The successful applicant will be part of the ACCESS staff and occasionally perform field work on NYUAD's marine sciences boat.

Applicants must have a PhD in environmentally-related fields of science or engineering, with a strong preference for qualifications in marine sciences and physical oceanography. They must also have proven experience in modeling and running ocean circulation models on HPC platforms. Familiarity with the CROCO/ROMS ocean circulation model and wit the Python programming language is highly desirable.
