About the role:

We are looking for a motivated individual to join our lively Placements Team in the Faculty of Engineering and Design. Your focus will be supporting engineering students take a 12-month placement as part of their degree. 

You will play a crucial role in maintaining strong professional relationships with current placement providers in an industry facing role whilst also proactively sourcing and developing opportunities to generate new placements. You will act as a point of contact for undergraduate students, academic staff and employers, dealing with enquiries and providing guidance. A major part of the role is to provide employability support to students on a one to one basis and good written English skills are essential. In addition, you will be required to deliver skills workshops and talks and must be a confident, engaging presenter to communicate to the student audience.

This is an exciting role supporting hard-working students at the start of their careers. 

This is a full time, fixed term position providing cover for maternity leave. The ideal start date for this role is March 2024, but we can offer some flexibility on this. The contract end date is 15th September 2024.

The Placements Team are currently undertaking a blend of 40% remote and 60% on campus work and are a student facing team. We are a supportive team of five Placement Officers, one Placement Manager and one Placement Administrator with the team a mixture of full-time and part-time staff. We benefit from being embedded within the Faculty and collaborating with academic colleagues and being part of the Faculty Professional Services team but also maintain strong links with the central careers service and other Faculty Placement teams.

About you:

With excellent organisational skills, you will demonstrate a good use of initiative and be able to multi-task and prioritise a high workload. Attention to detail and good administrative record keeping are essential. We work together as a team to achieve overall results and you will need to be a good teammate. An interest in learning about and working with engineering subject areas and industries would be beneficial.
