The Ashmolean Museum is seeking to appoint a Picture Library Assistant to join the Ashmolean Picture Library. You will be an important team member within the Ashmolean Picture Library, which forms part of the Commercial department within the Museum. Reporting to the Picture Library Manager and working alongside another Picture Library Assistant, this demanding yet rewarding position involves responding to all image and reproduction requests, both from within the Museum and from external clients based all around the world.
Liaising with staff from all over the museum to find appropriate images or facilitate new photography requests, this varied role would suit someone who has excellent research and communication skills and a keen eye for detail, with a willingness to learn more about image quality and rights management and the Ashmolean’s diverse collections. You will be comfortable working methodically in a busy, customer-facing environment with a focus on high standards and accuracy to meet customer- and internal deadlines. You will be a positive, flexible and enthusiastic team player with a willingness to handle potentially complex requests with efficiency and clarity. You will assist the team in proactively encouraging income generation by identifying and prioritising commercial requests in order to meet annual sales targets, and will have the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and prioritise your own workload.
You will be willing to develop a good working knowledge of the Picture Library industry, from image licensing practices to client account management and visual copyright law by attending role-specific training, workshops and picture-buying events as required. You will have proficiency in using the MS Office package (including Word, Excel and Outlook) and have the ability to perform basic quality assessments and make basic adjustments to images, ideally using Adobe Photoshop and Bridge.
This is a full-time, fixed-term post for 12 months.
