Duties will include the setting up, servicing and repair of optical, electronic and electro-mechanical apparatus and equipment associated with teaching laboratories. You will be required to contribute to the design and construction, of equipment required for teaching. Electrical testing and inspection of portable appliances is required along with an oversight of safe working practices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Organizes the day-to-day operations of the Physics teaching laboratories.
- Ensures that all apparatus, equipment and materials are set up and in full working order.
- Undertake repair and maintenance of equipment.
- Assists and contributes to the design, development and construction of specialised apparatus for new teaching experiments.
- Undertakes safety inspection and testing of equipment in the Physics laboratories and to other areas of the School on request.
- Ensures that health and safety is adhered to and that first aid items are available.
Knowledge and experience of electronics or electromechanical systems, including repair and maintenance, is essential together with a familiarity of optical equipment. Experience of health and safety practices and procedures. Experience of the use of computers in both office and laboratory environments. Good interpersonal skills and be able to demonstrate initiative, time management and organizational abilities.
Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 4 salary scale (62% of £23,487 - £27,116 per annum, pro rata) and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.
