The role

Based at our Headington campus and reporting to the Employment Relations and Policy Team Leader, the People Manager will be responsible for providing a comprehensive, professional HR service to a portfolio of faculties and  directorates; and contribute to policy development and project work.

About the team

Based in the People Directorate, the People Managers are a part of the Employment Relations and Policy Development team that provide professional ER advice and support to our Faculty and Directorate managers.

What will I be doing?

●     to provide a professional and timely HR service provision to a designated portfolio of faculties and  directorates

●     research, develop and draft HR policies

●     in collaboration with the relevant stakeholders, work to enhance the business  partnership relationship within the area of responsibility by reviewing and supporting the management of change of staffing levels/structures and individual  grading cases

●     contributing to the formulation and development of HR strategies to meet the changing needs of the business

●     reviewing and supporting the management of change of staffing levels/structures and individual job evaluation cases

●     advising and supporting formal consultation processes

●     contributing to the formulation and development of HR strategies to meet the changing needs of the  business

●     provide and participate in training and briefing sessions including the identification of training needs, preparing course materials and delivering training, as appropriate, for all levels of staff

●     to manage specific HR projects as directed by the Employment Relations Team Leader

●     to service and represent the team at relevant committees, including taking forward actions, as required

●     in collaboration with line managers, proactively manage absence in areas of responsibility, consulting with  Occupational Health as appropriate

●     to assist and contribute towards the management of Employment Tribunal responses, as appropriate

●     to act as a harassment and bullying adviser

●     any other duties commensurate with the level and responsibility of this post.

What skills do I need?

●     excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to write and present reports for a variety of audiences

●     the ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines that have been set

●     up to date knowledge of employment and equalities law and best practice

●     able to use own initiative and work collaboratively in a team

●     strong problem-solving skills

●     competent in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) applications

●     able to interpret people data

●     good organisational skills,  time management and delivering long-term projects on time.

Internal relationships are really important. You will work closely with your People Managers and People Directorate colleagues,  supporting managers across the wider organisation in advising on cases, policy queries. It is absolutely essential that the successful candidate has had experience at a similar role and level.

About the location

Based at our Headington campus, you’ll experience the vibrant campus atmosphere and benefit from our modern office environment. The campus is one mile from the centre of Oxford and is served by regular public transport.  This role will be hybrid and we expect that this role is likely to require 1-2 days on campus per week.
