PDRA – Entomological Capacity Development

Key out puts from this programme is the establishment of 18 sentinel sites for integrated entomological surveillance with our Indian partners, including the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme; the development of Capacity Strengthening Tools for expansion and sustainability in India and to address any operational research questions arising.

The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of delivering this programmme as well as identifying and leading on operational research questions in conjunction with the PI and local partners in India.

Key to the success of the role will be your ability to deliver across the following areas:

  • Expansion of entomological surveillance:
    • Development od SOPs for surveillance of diseases at sentinel sites
    • Collaborate with the Indian partners and LSTM (Inia team) to implement SOPs
    • Collaborate with NVBDCP and WHO India to determine key indicators
    • Track deliverables by NVBDCP
    • Work with PIs to operational questions and routes to deliver (funding etc)
    • Expansion of SOPSs in laboratory
    • Work with PI to evaluate programme
    • Capacity strengthening:
      • Work closely with stakeholders in India to determine appropriate training
      • Work with LSTM partners on appropriate delivery methodology
      • Assist in development of material
      • Assist in initial training in India
      • Work with partners to evaluate programme (Lead)
      • Management:
        • Assist / lead on ethics applications as appropriate
        • Assist / lead on peer review publications as required
        • Interact with Indian partners to arrange capacity strengthening

We are seeking candidates that can demonstrate:

  • PhD – entomology or equivalent
  • Entomological surveillance
  • Experience with one or more VBD disease programme
  • Capacity strengthening development
  • Line management
  • Project Management
  • Knowledge and behaviours that support equality, diversity and inclusive practice
  • Please note – travel to India is a part of this role
