The Role and the Department

The OD department is part of the Human Resources directorate at Durham University and the work of the whole directorate underpins the requirements of the University People Strategy which states, “people are the most important asset of Durham University. Talent management within an international and highly competitive sector is vital for the institution’s long-term success and the successful delivery of the University strategy.” The OD team are responsible for ensuring that leaders, teams, and individuals are provided with the opportunities and resources to enhance their effectiveness and efficiency in line with this strategic intent.

The post holder will be responsible for coordinating the activities of the wide Organisation Development portfolio along managing an administrative hub. You will be required to work with colleagues across the institution to ensure the service functions effectively in meeting priorities, working in accordance with the University and Departmental policies and procedures. 

The post holder will be a brilliant communicator, have good time management skills and are strong at developing relationships.  A keen eye for detail, a focus on continuous improvement and the drive to get things done.

The Organisation Development Coordinator will work take day to day decisions and using their experience and initiative to decide on appropriate courses of action and resolve complex problems. They will possess excellent organisational and time management skills, display initiative and flexibility, and demonstrate a commitment to customer service excellence.

The Organisation Development team work on a hybrid basis with two days on campus.

Essential Criteria   

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to develop effective working relationships with a range of senior stakeholders including Organisation Development Business Partners and external consultants
  • Strong digital competence with demonstrable skills in using core digital tools including internet, email, digital communication tools, Microsoft 365 applications, digital booking system, project planning. 
  • Five GCSE’s at least Grade C or level four (or equivalent) including English Language and Mathematics (or equivalent experience).    
  • Relevant administrative experience in a busy office and hybrid environment.    
  • Demonstrable ability to proactively work with team members to ensure the delivery of high quality services.   
  • Demonstrable ability to provide advice and guidance to a range of customers and colleagues.   
  • Ability to solve problems as part of a team and resolve issues, plan solutions and make pragmatic decisions.   
  • Ability to effectively network and exchange advice and information for development purposes.     
  • Demonstrable supervisory experience.
  • A high level of discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality.

    1.    Evidence of personal development to maintain skills.   
    2.    Post-16 qualification or equivalent experience.

    Typical Role Requirements

      
    Service Delivery

    •    Resolve queries and requests for information and advice and escalate more specialist and complex queries or issues to more experienced team members. 
    •    Provide guidance and advice to resolve problems and queries relating to learning and organisation development for a broad range of service users. 
    •    Deliver support services to ensure the effective and efficient running of business processes and systems. 
    •    Monitor and evaluate service delivery to ensure compliance with regulatory and professional procedures and standards. 
    •    Monitor data accuracy checks to identify anomalies and ensure the integrity of data and information. 
    •    Update data and information on systems and media e.g. Oracle Leaning and SharePoint for recording, storing, communicating and informing service users and team members.
