The Role and Department

Essential Criteria  

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to develop effective working relationships, both internally and externally.  
  • Excellent digital competence with demonstrable skills in using core digital tools including internet, email, digital communication tools, Microsoft 365 applications, digital booking system, project planning, financial systems, recruitment tools 
  • Five GCSE’s at least Grade C or level four (or equivalent) including English Language and Mathematics (or equivalent experience).  
  • Post-16 qualification (or equivalent experience).   
  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent experience).  
  • Professional Organisation Development and Learning and Development practitioner with specialist knowledge and expertise used to influence events and activities within the organisation.    
  • Continuing professional development required to maintain Organisation Development professional recognition.  
  • Knowledge and experience of ensuring compliance with regulatory and organisational policy and guidelines.    
  • Experience of providing specialist organisational development advice and guidance to a range of customers and colleagues, including more senior colleagues.  
  • Ability to contribute to planning at operational and strategic levels.  
  • Experience of being able to network effectively and develop strong and productive working relationships, to influence perceptions of the University.  
  • Track record of management and development experience and/or an enhanced management qualification applied across a large service team or teams. 
  • Proven ability to design, develop and facilitate organisation development and leadership development interventions.

  • Experienced coach and mentor.

    Typical Role Requirements 


    Service Delivery
    •    Lead on operational Organisation Development activities 
    •    Provide expert professional subject expertise and problem-solving skills. 
    •    Act as recognised Organisation Development and Learning practitioner within own specialist area of discipline, shaping activities, processes and systems.
    •    Manage quality and regulatory processes for Organisation Development learning and development services including ILM centre requirements and Apprenticeship Levy expenditure.
    •    Implement processes to manage the integrity and security of all commercially and professionally sensitive and personal data. 
    •    Contribute to the Organisation Development plan and provision, ensuring it is aligned to the strategic direction and ambitions of the university. 
    •    Lead internal business meetings, working groups and sub-committees at operational service level to influence governance, organisational policy and standards for the service. 
    •    Responsible for allocating and monitoring financial budgets and resources. 
    •    Provide professional guidance to stakeholders regarding Learning and Organisation Development. 
    •    Make recommendations and identify priorities to develop organisation plans and achieve organisation outcomes and objectives through Organisation Development interventions.
    •    Maintain oversight of the service and performance metrics to provide reports for higher-level managers and committees.


    Planning and Organising
    •    Lead on provision of Organisation Development projects and approaches.
    •    Oversight of short term and or temporary project teams/strands, taking responsibility for decision making as appropriate. 
    •    Significant input into the scoping and resource planning across a range of activities at operational and possibly strategic level. 
    •    Carry out project scoping, initiation, planning and implementation for large scale / University wide initiatives. 
    •    Lead on the design, implementation and monitoring of policy and quality standards, procedures and systems ensuring effective working and continuous improvement. 
    •    Promote and develop a deep understanding of organisational policy and external developments. 
    •    Utilise and enhance the use of available business systems to ensure accurate reporting. 

     

    Teamwork and Team Development
    •    Manage and develop service, infrastructure and people performance across the Organisation Development admin hub
    •    Devolve responsibilities to team members to ensure continuity of service provision and encourage skills development. 
    •    Ensure all stakeholder-facing staff provide an accessible, friendly and professional service by shaping processes for inducting and developing staff. 
    •    Provide feedback on team and individual performance and identify development needs, conducting regular staff ADR and performance reviews. 
    •    Recruit, induct, train and develop new team members. 
    •    Help to shape the skills and expertise of future team members and design work structures to meet operational and strategic goals. 
    •    Handle the vast majority of HR issues within a team, referring more complex HR issues to appropriate support services/senior management. 

     

    Communication/Networking
    •    Provide facilitation and training expertise for internal stakeholders.
    •    Engage with key stakeholders and internal and external contractors to influence opinion, delivery and reputation of services. 
    •    Work with team members and stakeholders to build and maintain excellent working relationships. 
    •    Contribute to operational leadership teams and decision making to shape the nature and level of support services. 
    •    Produce communications for promotion and reporting purposes, designing and structuring information and fact, applying creative and innovative principles to influence and engage.
    •    Develop external relations, identify and develop opportunities for communities of practice, employers via extra-curricular activities and increase levels of participation.

     

    Knowledge and Experience
    •    Lead on institution and department level support for people development including coaching and mentoring. 
    •    Project manage the resources and content of the Open Course soft skills training programme and leadership development programme to ensure maximum use by all staff from across the organisation in line with institutional strategy. 
    •    Promote the improvement and efficiency of departmental services by enhancing the leadership capability of line managers in collaboration with a range of stakeholder groups e.g. DCAD and EDI.
    •    To co-design and facilitate in-house events including workshops, away days as required according to the Organisation Development needs of the institution/ department/team. 
    •    Responsible for shaping the development and learning of others through commissioning and design of a comprehensive range of development programmes in line with the Realising Your Potential behavioural framework and the Job Families skills frameworks. 
    •    Develop practical solutions to organisational and people development issues eg career pathways and development role creation to support succession planning.
