About us: The University has an extensive IT network and systems portfolio both on premise and in Cloud or SaaS environments monitored using a range of tools managed by the Operations Bridge function. Using mainly Microsoft System Centre Operations Manager (SCOM), Dynatrace, Nagios, SolarWinds and SquaredUp the Operations Bridge is the central hub that connects the various support and development functions across the IT department, working with engineers to understand what needs to be monitored, honing the configuration and alert thresholds and responding to issues before they become service affecting.

About the role/requirements: The Operations Engineer role is to provide best practice technical expertise in the operation and improvement of the University’s system monitoring environment and services. This role will also assist in the design, implementation and maintenance of the monitoring and patching infrastructure.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience of an enterprise scale IT infrastructure.
  • The current skills and knowledge required to manage SCOM or similar monitoring tools.
  • They will also be used to resolving issues within a server environment and carrying out root cause analysis of recurring problems identified through the monitoring systems.

The University will be implementing a hybrid way of working once restrictions from Covid 19 end, therefore you will be expected to come onto campus to work for part of your working week. Exact days to be agreed.

This is a permanent post and is full-time working 37 hours per week.

This post is available on a job share basis for applicants wishing to work part time.

The University’s normal practice is that new appointments will be made at the starting point of the grade.
