Open Rank Faculty Position in Sustainable Development (Ref.AC2022/032/01)

Professor/Associate Professor

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in Sustainable Development or related field (specialization areas including, but not limited to, migration studies, sustainability, demography, environmental studies, social governance, political sociology, democracy, public policy, economic policy, Chinese politics, industrial relations, emergency management, environmental sociology, environmental assessment and sustainability, water resource management, public administration and management, public budgeting and etc.).s Applications are invited for faculty position at the rank of full professor/associate professor level with prospect for tenure, although junior candidate with very competitive academic records may be considered for position of assistant professor. Candidate with exceptionally outstanding records may be considered for Chair Professorship with tenure.

Candidate for full professor or associate professor position is expected to have solid evidence of excellence in teaching/research/service, and a strong track record of sustained high-quality research/scholarship outcomes in the expertise area(s), as evidenced by research publications in competitive international outlets in the relevant areas of sustainable development. In addition, candidate need to demonstrate academic leadership and strong commitment to the highest standard of excellence. Candidate is advised to provide quality indicators for the journals where he/she have research publications (e.g., journal impact factor, journal ranking in a relevant category, as available in the Journal Citations Reports of the Web of Science). 

Appointment will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially, leading to longer-term appointment or tenure later, subject to successful performance evaluation and mutual agreement. In cases where a candidate has an established record of excellence and demonstrable potential for continued success, tenure may be offered to the candidate at the time of initial appointment.

The appointee is expected to commence work in academic year 2022-2023; to be the leading scholar in the area of sustainable development at HSS; and able to teach a range of courses in core areas of sustainable development, to develop cooperative relations with sustainable development industries and to assist in curriculum development and administrative assignments. A Ph.D. must be in hand prior to taking up the appointment.

Salary & Benefits

Salary will be competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will be made under the establishment of CUHK, Shenzhen and statutory benefits will be provided according to the prevailing labor laws applicable in the People’s Republic of China. The appointee will be based at the University campus in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China.
