NMC Test Centre Examiner

Updated: 10 months ago
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne, ENGLAND
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 20 Jun 2023

ABOUT THE TEAM

Northumbria University is delighted to have become an approved provider to conduct the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Test of Competence in 2021. We are one of five test centres based around the UK. The Test Centres provide Part Two of the NMC’s Test of Competence for international nurses and midwifes seeking registration with the NMC and for those nurses and midwives looking to renew their registration after a career break. Part Two is a nursing or midwifery Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) which simulates a clinical environment and various ‘patient’ scenarios which are likely to be encountered by registered nurses and midwives. Candidates are expected to utilise a modern evidence base and effectively demonstrate safe practical application of nursing and midwifery skills. The Test of Competence is blueprinted against the current UK pre-registration standards which are available on the NMC’s website.

The Competence Test Centre at Northumbria University opened in March 2022, and we are now in the process of increasing our capacity to undertake NMC’s Test of Competence and expand the Centre’s team. This expansion will take place within our existing test centre at Coach Lane West campus.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As an NMC Test Centre Examiner (E) you will work closely with the Assistant Lead Examiners in the NMC Competence Test Centre (ALE-CTC) to ensure the effective and efficient running of the assessment process, in line with the University and NMC requirements and governance processes. The role holder, when required, will support the ALE-CTCs in all matters relating to the CTC and represent the test centre at meetings with other test centres.

The post holder will be responsible for the assessment of the safe and effective application of clinical skills by nurses at the point of entry to the register via OSCE. Working closely with the ALE-CTC, the Examiner will be responsible for the development, delivery and assessment of specifically designed simulated skills sessions for candidates undertaking the NMC OSCE assessments.

For further detail see the job description.

ABOUT YOU

The successful candidate will have experience of teaching, mentoring and supervising nursing students and qualified staff in a clinical or higher education setting. They will also have knowledge and understanding of current developments related to the NMC Test of Competence, have good verbal and written communication and presentation skills with the ability to clearly articulate complex issues and have a willingness to support the Lead Examiner and Assistant Lead Examiners in the moderation of the OSCE assessment within the test centre.

We welcome applications from registered nurses from across all four fields of nursing, and would particularly welcome those with a mental health or paediatric background. A current NMC registration, relevant to your field of practice is essential.

For further detail see the person specification.
